The students came to the Innovation Lab to see their 3D designs come to life. I talked to them about how 3D printing works. I showed them how the filament gets hot and melts and it lays down a small bead of plastic that cools and hardens. I showed them how it's kind of like when you squeeze glue out of a bottle. Then using sticky notes I showed them how as each layer builds it gets taller. Then they got to see first hand the two 3D printers that were printing their designs. And they got to touch and feel some of the objects that had already finished printing.
