The Kindergarten & First Grade students made a commercial:
The 1st grade will have tech time with me every other Thursday. During that time we will do a variety of activities such as coding, 3D design, etc. This Thursday I introduced the students to a fun math app called Moose Math where students made smoothies while practicing counting, addition, and subtraction. Moose Math engages kids in a mathematical adventure and teaches counting, addition, subtraction, sorting, geometry and more. While playing 5 multi-level activities in the Moose Juice Store, Puck’s Pet Shop and Lost & Found, kids can earn rewards to help build their own city and decorate buildings. Moose Math introduces a new whimsical group of Duck Duck Moose characters, The Dust Funnies, who help with mastering math skills. Moose math is developed by Duck Duck Moose a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khan Academy. Today we went over the ACDS Media Agreement. We talked about how an "agreement" describes what you are "agreeing to do" in exchange for using technology at the school and how using the iPads is a privilege. We read each line of the agreement and the students signed a copy.
I teach two classes before students are able to get their iPads. The first is about Staying Safe Online. The students watch a video by Common Sense Media called Going Places Safely.
Then I read them a book I wrote called Staying Safe Online. The gist of the story is that the rules on staying safe the Internet are the same as the rules in every day life. That's because the Internet is an extension of the world around us. The story goes through different scenarios to make the point.
