This afternoon we will be going on a field trip to the Microsoft Store at Pentagon City where you will learn the basics needed to code a game that runs as an app on a mobile phone or tablet. This is a little different than the block coding (graphical) we've used in the past. Today you will use text based coding. The coding concepts are the same. I liken it to the difference between baking a cake from a box mix and making one from scratch. One hides the complexity from you and the other gives you more flexibility. Here is a video of a Minecraft programmer editing text code for the game:
We will try out how it all works by fixing a Jetpack Jumper game on a Surface Pro 4. The main character in the game is a crazy robot who is trying to make it through a maze of wacky obstacles. If you are interested in learning more you can check out Microsoft's Learn to Code site or Microsoft Imagine's create page.
