Here are a couple of questions that I didn't get to in class...
Carter would like to know "Why do we need two nostrils?" Having two eyes provides us with depth perception and helps us determine how far away something is. Having two ears helps us locate the direction and distance a sound is coming from. You might think that having two nostrils would provide something similar, but it doesn't. According to the Merck Manual Home Health Handbook, the human nose is made of bone, cartilage, skin and mucus membranes. The bone and cartilage provide the structure of the nose. The mucus membranes line the inside of the nose, and skin covers the outside. Source
